It was June 24, 1980; “Day of Saint John”; that for the first time the public heard Silvia’s voice singing Pirecuas, Romances, Corridos, Arrullos en Huichol, Boleros and Canciones. It was in the Agora of the Ex Convent of Cármen; in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Since its beginnings, Silvia has been an interpreter of Mexican music sung in Spanish and in indigenous languages: Purepecha, Huichol and Zapotec. She sings both popular and folk music.
It has been fundamental for her to present the work of Mexican singer-songwriters such as: Pancho Madrigal, Luis Manuel Mercado, Rafaél Mendoza, David Haro, Marcial Alejandro and Memo Briseño. Without ceasing to resort to the poetics of Agustín Lara, Álvaro Carrillo, José Alfredo Jiménez, Chamaco Domínguez, Tomas Méndez, Joaquín Pardavé, Consuelito Velázquez, Tomas Méndez, Guty Cárdenas, Don Gabriel Luna de la Fuente, Armando Manzanero, Cuco Sánchez and many others who have written the musical history of Mexico and Latin America.
Silvia has the collaboration of musicians from different musical horizons and different countries such as: Uruguay, Cuba, Venezuela, Spain, Brazil, France, Africa, Argentina, Martinique, Belgium and Mexico. This multiculturalism has given her music a unique color, since in its original proposal, it mixes Afro-Mexican roots with indigenous and Spanish roots that, combined with jazz or more current rhythms, achieve a totally contemporary, universal and at the same time fusion. same time “Authentically Mexican”…
In 2004 she presented her 1st Album “CUÁNTO DEL OTRO HAY EN MÍ”, in this CD includes songs by Rafaél Mendoza, David Haro, Agustín Lara, Alvaro Carrillo, some others from the public domain and 2 songs by José Luis Montiel. Her 2nd album, “QUEDA EL CORAZÓN” was presented on March 7, 2008 at the Moliere Theater in Brussels, Belgium. In 2010 she presented her 3rd album “RAICES” where she recorded the first songs that she sang at the beginning of her career (when she was 14 years old), and with which she celebrated 30 years as a singer. In 2012 she presented a 4th Album “IMAGINAR”, together with Cantango (a women’s project), álbum in which she recorded 8 songs of tango, valses and milongas, written and arranged by herself.
Actually (2024) she is recording her 5th album “AQUÍ ME VES”, to celebrate 45 years as a singer!
Until today, Abalos is produced in the festivals in Mexico, in France, in Portugal, in Belgium, in Italy, in Spain, in Croatia, in Thailand, in Pays-Bas, in Roumanie, in Singapore and in Argentina.
Bathed in a burning desire for peace and universal love, Silvia chooses and sings each of her songs with surprising audacity and great sensitivity in her words. Accompanied by five extraordinary musicians and three dancers, this great figure on the international scene, possessed of a strong personality and a charming voice, proposes to us through her music that: “it is possible to live everyday life in harmony and tolerance.” – “ESPERANZAH FESTIVAL”
